Court of Assistants
The Company is governed in its civil and financial affairs by a Court of Assistants,
which was first established in 1633. The Court Members, who are also trustees
of the HAC Charity, consist of the Captain-General, the President, the Vice President,
the Treasurer, the Regimental Colonel, the Commanding Officer, the Senior Major, one
nominated member of the Regiment, the senior Police Officer of the HAC Special
Constabulary Detachment, the Captain of the Company of Pikemen & Musketeers,
the Officer Commanding the Light Cavalry, two Assistants appointed by the retiring
Court of Assistants, and not more than 20 elected Assistants.
The Court sits as an open Court, normally in the Court Room, on 9 occasions a
year. The Annual General Court, open to all members, is held on a Wednesday in
late March for the ballot of the 20 elected Assistants, for the selection of an
Auditor, and to receive the Annual Report and Accounts. The Annual General Court
may also conduct the ordinary business of the Company. Having secured the endorsement
of the Annual General Court, the Court appoints Committees to undertake the detailed
business of the Company.
There is also the facility to hold a Special General Court which may be called
by the Court of Assistants or by no less than 50 Regimental Members.
