FitzRoy Lodge

The Lodge was founded by members of the Regiment in 1849 and has met regularly ever since. As such it is second only to the Mess Club in age as a sub-unit. The Secretary of the HAC at that time was William H White, who also served contemporaneously as Grand Secretary of the United Grand Lodge of England. Now, as then, the Lodge enjoys a close relationship with Grand Lodge, and its prestige in Masonic terms is in keeping with the acknowledged prestige of the Regiment and Company.

The Lodge takes its name from Lt Col the Hon Henry FitzRoy MP, whose portrait hangs in the Long Room at Armoury House and who “as Commanding Officer of the regiment, gave his consent and hearty support at the foundation of the Lodge which bears his name and, but for the pressure of his Parliamentary duties, he would have been an attending member.”

The FitzRoy Chapter was consecrated in 1881 and the FitzRoy Mark Lodge in 1925.

Charity is the distinguishing characteristic of a Freemason’s heart and the Lodge is proud to have been able to provide assistance recently, together with other Freemasons who are members of the Company, towards the welfare of our soldiers serving abroad and their dependants at home.
