In Italy, the 2nd Battalion left the relative safety of the support lines, returning instead to the front. Although little contact was made with the enemy. The Battalion suffered many casualties due to shelling.

In Italy, the 2nd Battalion began the month on 4th July with a very successful raid on Austrian positions known as Stella Spur, capturing two vital prisoners. One Military Cross and four Military Medals were awarded to the soldiers who took part in this operation.
