LSgt Sophie Montagne headed out to the Norwegian Arctic Circle last Friday, to take part in Ex ICE READY. Twelve women from the Regular Army and Reserve skied for 10 hours per day, dragging pulks with all the kit they needed to survive for the 14 day challenge.
Enduring temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius, they camped out on frozen lakes and operated in 24-hour darkness. LSgt Montagne is hoping to be selected on the final team of five for Ex ICE Maiden - the first all-female team attempting to ski coast-to-coast across Antarctica in October 2017.
