What do we do?

The Detachment undertakes a very wide range of activities including traditional policing on the street, special duties and policing at ceremonial and public occasions, working closely with our Regular colleagues. All this is backed up by professional training and the full range of modern police resources:

  • You will undertake interesting and exciting patrols, enabling you to become directly involved in the front line battle against crime
  • You will have the opportunity to use your own skills and experience in the duties you undertake
  • You will assist in the policing of various enjoyable public events such as the London Marathon and the Lord Mayor's Parade
  • You will be fully trained for the duties you undertake and have the backup of modern police resources for whatever may be encountered on the street

The HAC offers a very wide variety of social, recreational, and sports activities, and you will enjoy the lifelong comradeship of other HAC members. Extensive gymnasium and fitness facilities are also available to members, including complimentary membership of the flagship Virgin Active health club at Armoury House.

Am I Eligible?

  1. You must be 18 years of age or over at the time of applying
  2. You need to be a British citizen or a citizen of a country that is a member of the European Economic Area, or Switzerland. Commonwealth citizens and foreign nationals who are resident in the UK and free from restrictions are also eligible to apply
  3. Ideally, you should not have a criminal record. If you have a conviction as an adult or juvenile it is unlikely that you will be suitable, but some minor offences and cautions may not exclude you
  4. You must not have tattoos on your hands, neck, forearms or face which could cause offence to members of the public or colleagues, or be considered lewd, garish or provocative
  5. You must not be registered bankrupt with outstanding debts, have outstanding county court judgements against you, or be subject to a current Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA)

How do I apply?

To become an HAC Special Constable you should:

  1. be a member of the City of London Police Special Constabulary
  2. be signed off for independent patrol.

Application Process       
The HAC hold presentation evenings at Armoury House on the first Tuesday of each month, starting at 7pm. This will give you the opportunity to find out more about us, what we do and how to join.
