Overview

The rugby pitch at the HAC is lovingly tended to by a team of expert grounds staff who take great pride in ensuring it meets with the standards expected by world class players and clubs. Set within the five-acre Artillery Garden in the heart of the City, it makes an ideal choice for any game from an after work, inter-departmental kick about to an international match with thousands of spectators.

Catering and Entertainment

There’s a huge array of food and drink options available for organisers hosting a rugby match at the HAC, pre- and post-game and during proceedings. Catering marquees and bars can be put up around the pitch for spectators and you can use the spaces inside the historic Armoury House for standing receptions after the match. For large numbers, we have the Prince Consort Rooms that can cater for up to 700 guests for receptions and 350 for dinner and dancing.

Many of our organisers choose to combine their sporting event with either an awards ceremony or a charity dinner in the Prince Consort Rooms. The pitch is used by some fabulous teams including Saracens, the All Blacks, Barbarians and the School of Hard Knocks, so we have some brilliant contacts if you’re interested in hosting a Q&A with a professional player. The space is kitted out with state-of-the-art AV facilities which, amongst other things, give you the option to show highlights of the afternoon’s activities.

In the warmer months, guests can also enjoy our Terrace, situated in-between the inside event space and the gardens. These three spaces, when booked together, offer the perfect combination for a full-day event.

Spectators

The grounds can comfortably host up to 3,000 guests standing around the pitch, or there’s the option to install stands which can hold up to 1,500. You can also use the pitch alone for just the players if you’re hosting a low-key game.

Facilities and Prices

Dressing rooms and showers for players are included in the pitch hire and prices start at £625+VAT for a 2-hour game. The rugby season runs from mid-October to the end of March.
